Guantanamo Plea Bargain

Omar Khadr's case has finally come before an "American" military tribunal. He was being charged as an "enemy combatant" these are people who are captured in an active war zone, provided none of the rights a prisoner of war receives, but are forced to face military justice. As though its not bad enough you try someone in whats clearly not a fair trial, but you get pissed off Americans in the paper complaining that the 8 year plea bargain is not justice enough.

So Omar has received 8 years, 7 of which will be served in a Canadian prison, he has been locked away in Guantanamo for several years now. What did this Canadian citizen do to receive 8 years after plea bargain plus time imprisoned? He threw a grenade in Afghanistan an active war zone at the time, which mortally wounded an American soldier.

My question to you is how many people have been killed in the afghan war? how many american soldiers are being tried for killing afghan soldiers, militants or civilians? None! This is war, but the United States has found a way to put a face on the war and make it feel more personal.

I find this whole situation disgusting and diplorable. Charging an afghan national in an american military tribunal for wounding an american soldier, while in his native land. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

White Knight,
