sad day for religous freedoms

so france passed their new bill banning muslim face coverings. it hasn't caused nearly the stink i thought it would all around the world. france claims it follows their secular belief system, but what about religous freedom?
I agree that no woman should be forced to wear a veil if they do not want to, but what if they do. Do we tell the french how to worship or follow their own faith? NO! So what the hell gives them the right to tell others?
Everyone should be able to worship in their own way, end of story.
