Does Learning Hurt?

I have come to realize how lazy people truly are when it comes to learning something new. We have given up the pursuit of knowledge and simply want someone to hold our hand and walk us through the dark forest of ignorance.

Working in technical support I have come to some conclusions about people and their lack of understanding when it comes to technology.

- Some people are scared of the big bad computer (BBC). I can understand that you do not want to mess up the machine or do something that may make it explode; but come on take a chance.

- I don't know. It has come to the point where this is almost unacceptable for me. Normally I would allow it but its getting ridiculous. Take some time and learn the basics of your machine, not the technical stuff simply the basics of browser, email client etc.

- Genius calling tech support (GCTS).
These are by far the worst possible tech people out there. I know everything, I am going to treat you like dirt. The secret to know is that these people do not have a clue. Chances are they just jumped into a forum or a friend told them something.

- Mr. & Mrs. Credentials (MMC)
These are the people that yell at you about their training and credentials, yet they are calling technical support. Simply laugh.

- Too Lazy to Care(TLC)
That's right, here are those choice people who do not even want to push a button to fix the issue. Simply want it done for them. When you can't they yell about how much they pay. These people can kiss my ass.

To any and all technical support reps out there you are not alone, we share your pain. To all the cranky customers out there, relax, yelling and screaming only annoys your technical support.

Its not you its your company.

I am really getting tired of hearing this everyday. Customers come in and tear a strip off of you then turn around and say its not your fault; I am just mad at your company.

Keep your apologies to yourself, I don't want to hear them anymore.

Is it wrong not to care?

I find myself feeling less and less for certain things or even people. I talk to people about it and they seem offended by this approach to life. Why should we care about everything there is? Why are we forced to worry about what is happening in a different world.
Perhaps it is wrong not to care, but really I don't care. Many say I am cold as ice, well it appears that winter is here to stay.
