Revenge of the Nuclear Family

Every day at work I go in and here more and more about people having kids, worrying about their families. I do not have any kids, I may never have kids. Does this make me a bad person? Black sheep to society?

The age of people starting families has returned to a range of 16 - 20. I am well past that now; perhaps I missed the bus on this one.

Everywhere we look now the push for family is on, family discounts, family diners, family everything. What are those of us who are living without kids getting... Nothing!

Are we being punished for not procreating the species with more uneducated, undisciplined little bastards? I for one do not think this is right, we are people too and deserve things for ourselves. I recently got word that certain cities are opening child-free restaurants, this to me sounds like a great idea. If I am spending $100+ for a nice night out with my girl I want to know that I will not have to listen to a pissed off kid screaming all night. I am not saying that children should be locked up at home, but those of us who do not want a family deserve peace and quiet.

I have no problem with children, they can bring great joy to your life. But that joy does not spread to all of us.

Is it time to change dice?

Change is an amazing thing for most of us, we feel its exhilarating presence everyday of our lives. The anticipation of the next great adventure.
What about those people that are afraid to change. What is it you really fear?
Is it failure? Loss? Happiness?

Change can bring a lot of different emotions to the surface, some we are ready for others we cannot accept. As we get older is appears to be harder and harder for us to change anything in our lives. AS children we were not afraid or even hesitant to change our lives completely around.

Change and chance are the same thing in this world. I have been tossing dice for a very long time and sometimes I have come out on top, other times I didn't. Throwing the dice is simply another part of the game. To the young lady I know will be reading this -- pick up that d100 and give it a toss.

White Knight,
That which goes bump in the night.

What is it about the darkness that scares us so much? Is it the feeling of uncertainty or the idea that something is lurking out there waiting for us?

As kids we were afraid of the bogeyman who hid in our closet or under the bed. We have grown up now and know that the bogeyman is not real. Yet we are still afraid of it; difference is its outside the closet.

Face to Face, Two Lovers Fiery Embrace
Benjamin L. Gibson

I touched her face and she looked at me
Eyes innocent and pure
Closing eyes, lips quickly meet
Hearts stop as heavenly passion begins

Explosion of heat
Two become one
One becomes all

Tightening embrace, thoughts leave this place
Nothing matters now
This moment forever, together we enjoy

Over the hill, the sun begins to rise
The evening almost over, one more thing
Hold my hand as you lay your head
As you lay your head down to rest
Life in the Gulag #2

So I left work early last night as I just couldn't take anymore at the time. Went out had a great dinner and drinks with a girl I just can't get enough of. This is off the point.

I left last night because I couldn't take the lack of basic human compassion anymore. Working without the tools and no training is mind boggling but we do it all the time.

Upon my return today, all refreshed and ready to do battle with my customers again, a sense that something was different had washed over me. Everyone was wearing kid gloves and one of the supervisors sat down and asked if I was alright.

Am I alright? Of course I am. They all thought it was a meltdown of sorts, but really I just had enough for one day and had to leave. Felt as though a support group had been built within 20hours for me.

This Gulag is nothing special, simply a place to waste 8.5hours a day and get paid. I miss the tyranny people, I really miss it.

Should we follow popular opinion?

The other day an article appeared on http://www.cbc.ca and it was a poll discussing our participation in Afghanistan. 46% of the people polled said we should pull out, this was the majority as all others polled were broken into smaller groups.

Currently our minority government is saying they will not leave Afghanistan. But what if it begins to turn into Iraq? One giant screw-up; the US has lost more then 2000 soldiers in Iraq and the problem is getting worse.

Question is do we follow the popular opinions of our own people or do we follow what we believe is right? I suppose in some ways we do not have to think about it; we do elect politicians for a reason. A country full of morals and liberal thought, yet we elect people who want to return to the dark ages and ignore that change has to occur.

Loss of Passion.

I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for more then 13 years now. I started back in a friends basement playing 2nd ed. We played for the love of the game, the concept that you were that one great hero willing to put it all on the line.

Now it feels as though all the passion is gone from the game, people are playing for the power and a need to kill things. You can do that in a video game. It use to be something special to me, but now its just a way to take up time on a day off from work.

Somewhere the passion was lost... Will we ever get it back?

Perhaps I should change my passions back to things once left in the past. Thrill of the fight... One last shot at the glory I had lost. Use to be a fighter and I was good at what I did, Size didn't matter it was all about spirit. Violence is not what I am after, but a sense of being a man again.

Without the passion of the game and the thrill of the fight, I suppose I will have to continue the hunt for the love of a good woman.
